US Center for Disease Control
WPi Provided Design and Construction documents. The site design concept focuses on the LEED Green Building design criteria which includes a Bio-retention System, Rain Garden, Xeriscape plants and Drip Irrigation. The bio-retention System reduces the post development stormwater runoff by 25%. The Rain Garden retains the 100 yr. storm event. It filters impurities from the water, recharges the ground water table and reduces runoff via transportation. The xeriscape plant materials are used to reduce water consumption and the drip irrigation is used to reduce water usage. While, the water from the roof is channeled to the rain garden via a system of gravel rills where sculptural cisterns collect and overflow with each rain event. The project was designed to achieve LEED Gold Certification.
