Hunter Park
Douglasville, GA
City of Douglasville
WPi prepared a renovation master plan for the park and including sitting a new 15,000 s.f. recreation center building. Primary issues to address included pedestrian/vehicular circulation conflicts, poor site drainage, insufficient parking, and an eclectic mix of buildings in various stages of decline.
The master plan proposes a common architectural theme for the buildings and site. The park entrance road has been realigned to provide a lake from site for the recreation center, which in turn allows for a vehicular free connection to the passive areas of the park.
The existing lake has been expanded to transform a neglected area at the park entrance into a welcoming vista that features a cantilevered festival pavilion, flanked by eight-foot high bubbling fountains.
The plan also includes renovations to existing ball fields, the addition of a softball complex, additional tennis courts and pavilion, over 600 additional parking spaces, picnic pavilions, and over a mile of trails.
